Real-time passenger information is now live, paving the way for dynamic bus allocation
ARS Traffic & Transport Technology B.V. (ARS T&TT) has successfully brought the first stage of its DBUS solution into operation at Neckerspoel Bus Terminal in Eindhoven. Since September, passengers and drivers at this important regional public transport hub have benefited from reliable, real-time information delivered through the DBUS platform.
Located directly next to Eindhoven Central Station, Neckerspoel handles a high volume of bus movements and passenger flows within a compact terminal environment. With buses arriving and departing frequently, making effective use of available platform capacity while providing clear and accurate information is essential to efficient terminal operations.Real-time passenger information with DBUS
The first stage of the implementation places DBUS at the centre of real-time passenger and driver information management at Neckerspoel.
DBUS integrates with the terminal’s existing infrastructure to process and distribute real-time departure information across multiple information channels. Passengers can view current departure details on large overview displays in the waiting areas and on platform displays, while an audio pole provides accessible spoken information for visually impaired passengers.
Drivers also receive dedicated operational information through displays in the drivers’ cabin.
Together, these channels provide a consistent, up-to-date view of bus services, destinations, departure times and platform information across the terminal.
The next step: dynamic bus allocation
The September go-live marks the first stage of the DBUS implementation. The next stage will introduce one of the core capabilities of DBUS: dynamic bus allocation.
Using timetable information, real-time operational data and local vehicle detection, DBUS will continuously determine and update the appropriate departure platform for each bus. The objective is to make optimal use of available platform capacity while maintaining a predictable and passenger-friendly terminal environment.
When a bus enters the terminal, DBUS can identify the vehicle through the existing VECOM detection infrastructure, associate it with its next scheduled trip and determine the appropriate platform. The allocation is then communicated directly to the driver, while the corresponding platform information is provided to passengers through the terminal’s information displays.
This dynamic approach enables the terminal to respond to actual operating conditions, including delays, early arrivals, changing platform occupancy and other deviations from the planned timetable.

One integrated platform for smarter bus terminal operations
The Neckerspoel implementation builds on ARS T&TT’s proven DBUS technology and experience in dynamic bus terminal management and real-time public transport information.
Rather than replacing the terminal’s existing infrastructure, DBUS integrates with and makes use of existing detection, display and network systems. The solution has been configured to meet the specific operational requirements of Neckerspoel.
DBUS brings key elements of bus terminal management together within a single integrated environment:
- Processing timetable and real-time operational data
- Detecting and identifying buses
- Allocating available platform capacity
- Communicating platform assignments to drivers
- Providing passengers with reliable, real-time departure information
By connecting these functions, DBUS provides the foundation for more responsive, efficient and passenger-oriented bus terminal operations.
From real-time information to dynamic operations
With the first stage now live, passengers and drivers at Neckerspoel are already benefiting from consistent, real-time information. The upcoming introduction of dynamic bus allocation will take the implementation a step further, enabling DBUS to respond continuously to changing operational conditions and optimise the use of available terminal capacity.
Neckerspoel demonstrates how DBUS can build on existing infrastructure to create a smarter, more connected and more adaptable bus terminal environment.
